Formation of the Society

A meeting of eminent geotechnical professionals in Bangladesh was convened by Prof. A M M Safiullah at the Department of Civil Engineering on 03-Aug-1989 at 5:00 pm at the Civil Engineering Department of BUET. With a proposal from Prof. Safiullah and supported by Dr. Hossain Ali, and as agreed upon by all the individuals present, the meeting was presided by Dr. Ahsanul Jalil Khan. The participants expressed the necessity of having a society for advancement of Geotechnical Engineering profession. The meeting formed a society in the name "Bangladesh Society for Geotechnical Engineering". The meeting also unanimously formed an eleven member Adhoc Executive Committee consisting of the following:

  The TOR of the committee included
• Prepare draft constitution and finalize it through discussion in a national meeting
• Submit application for ISSMGE membership at Rio-de-Jeniro Council Meeting of ISSMGE
• Arrange for election of an Executive Committee The first election of the Executive Committee was held in 08 April 1990.
